Sources say Tesla will launch rear-wheel drive version of Model Y long-range model
Tesla's best-selling pure electric model, Model Y, currently offers three models: rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Standard Range , and all-wheel-drive (AWD) Long Range, and Performance trim.
However, the latest news shows that Tesla may plan to launch a fourth new model based on the Model Y long-range version: a rear-wheel drive version of the Model Y long-range model, with a further range of 600 kilometers.
Recently, according to the latest European certification information exposed, it is understood that it is equipped with a 79 kWh ternary lithium battery and is equipped with 19-inch wheels. It has a WLTP endurance of up to 600 kilometers, which is longer than the dual-motor all-wheel drive Model Y.
Although it has not yet been officially put on the shelves, the price is still unknown, but because it has been changed from a dual-motor four-wheel drive to a single-motor rear-wheel drive setting, the price is bound to be more affordable than the dual-motor version of the Model Y long-range model.
In fact, there is a precedent for a rear-wheel drive version of a long-range Tesla model. As early as 2017, when Tesla first released the Model 3 series, it offered a rear-drive version of the Model 3 long-range model. Although it was later removed from the shelves for a long time, last year Tesla suddenly sold the rear-wheel drive Model 3 long-range model in Europe for corporate customers. The battery life is better and the price is higher than the dual-motor all-wheel drive Model 3 long-range model. Models are nearly 10% cheaper.
