Tesla to be launching wireless inductive charging technology

According to the latest revelations, Tesla appears to be on the verge of launching wireless inductive charging technology, and it appears that the Cybertruck will be the first Tesla vehicle to feature the technology with a built-in inductive charging connector.

Recently, members of the Cybertruck Owners Club found a connector on the Cybertruck's battery pack called the "inductive charger port" in the vehicle's service manual. This means that Tesla will be able to retrofit the Cybertruck with an inductive charging panel when wireless charging stations become available.

Cybertruck Chief Engineer Wes Morrill seems to confirm this, replying to the above posting with the following statement: You can always consult our publicly available service documentation! You don't have to solve all the problems by yourself.

Years ago, Tesla, in an effort to further improve convenience when charging vehicles, developed a snake-like charging robot arm that automatically docks to the charging port and connects the charging gun to the vehicle when it's parked in a designated space.

As for wireless charging technology, Tesla has not taken it as its main R&D goal. However, with the continuous progress and development of autopilot, the advantages of wireless charging technology are slowly revealed.

Last year, Tesla demonstrated a new wireless inductive charging system at an investor day presentation. The image showed a Model S Plaid parked in a garage with a large wall-mounted charging device connected to a charging mat underneath the car.

A few months later, Tesla acquired Wiferion, a startup focused on wireless charging technology, and also released a video (below) briefly demonstrating wireless charging technology using a Model 3. But then Tesla sold Wiferion, but left all of the company's engineers behind, hinting at Tesla's move to develop wireless inductive charging technology.

Notably, Tesla's chief designer Franz von Holzhausen also confirmed in a recent interview that Tesla is working on a wireless charging pad. And said: Tesla is working on inductive charging technology that doesn't require plugging in anything, just drive the car to the charging pad in your garage and it starts charging automatically.

Since Tesla is working on a wireless charging station, there is a need for matching receivers on the electric car side as well. Now it can be confirmed that at least one Tesla model is ready to go, and that's the Cybertruck.
