Toyota is to mass produce the electric pick up Hilux by 2025
Toyota has hinted at an electric version of its best-selling Hilux for years - promising that at least 15 electric Toyotas will be available by 2030 - but it seems a hybrid version is more likely.
The Hilux pickup electric concept pictured above may bring some sparkle to its design - it will feature some form of hybrid powertrain, in line with Toyota's promise to launch an electrified version of its best-selling model by 2030. While Toyota hasn't gotten into details yet, it has revealed a concept that showcases a sleek and aggressively styled electric vehicle, simply called the Pickup EV Concept.
Toyota recently stated that it will mass produce the electric Hilux pickup truck by the end of 2025.
One of the main reasons the Toyota Hilux isn't sold in the United States stems from a 1960s trade dispute over the exportation of chickens to Europe. The tit-for-tat dispute somehow led President Lyndon Johnson to impose a 25% tariff on imported light trucks.
