What have Model 3 Refreshed?
As a benchmark brand in the electric vehicle market, every move Tesla makes garners considerable attention. Not long ago, the significant price drop of the Model Y led to a staggering sales figure of over 51,000 units in a single month. Recently, following six years since its debut, Tesla has unveiled the much-anticipated refreshed Model 3, stirring up intense interest and sparking widespread discussion in the market. So, what exactly has changed with the refreshed Model 3?
The refreshed Model 3 sees substantial alterations across various aspects, including exterior design, interior features, configurations, and performance – truly representing a comprehensive overhaul.
In terms of exterior design, both front and rear lights have undergone a complete redesign, imparting a stronger sense of sportiness, while two new body colors—Stellar Grey and Flame Red—are introduced, along with brand new 18-inch Photon wheels and 19-inch Nova wheels. The length of the new car measures at 4720mm, extending 26mm longer than the previous model, with a wheelbase of 2875mm.
Interior-wise, the refreshed Model 3 adopts a wraparound cockpit design and introduces multi-color ambient lighting and all-new interior materials. Most notably, a rear-seat 8-inch touchscreen has been added, allowing backseat passengers to enjoy entertainment and control certain vehicle functions. The seats now feature ventilation, a welcome addition for customers in warmer regions like Fujian. Furthermore, the use of double-layer soundproof glass enhances the overall serenity inside the cabin.
In terms of range and performance, the refreshed Model 3 continues to offer rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions. The rear-wheel drive variant sees its range extended from 556 kilometers to 606 kilometers, while the all-wheel-drive model's range increases from 675 kilometers to 713 kilometers. The suspension system has undergone fine-tuning, complemented by a next-generation vehicle stability system, ensuring smoother rides on winding roads and better stability at high speeds.
Regarding safety, the refreshed Model 3 incorporates remote airbags, new door hinges, locks, and latches, features typically found only in a select few high-end luxury cars, which significantly enhance side-impact protection.
Two aspects of the new car have sparked considerable debate. First, the physical gear shift has moved from the traditional stalk position to the overhead console, indirectly prompting drivers to use the central touchscreen for gear selection. Additionally, the turn signal lever has been replaced with buttons on the steering wheel, changes that will significantly impact driving habits and require a period of adjustment.
Secondly, pricing. The 2024 Tesla Model 3 is anticipated to have a starting price of approximately $40,630, rising to $55,000, depending on the trim level and optional extras.
The thorough refresh of the Model 3, especially its refined and sleeker exterior that seemingly echoes the Roadster, is something I find particularly appealing.
This first major refresh of the Model 3 after six years is poised to exert considerable influence on the current and future electric vehicle market. Deliveries of the refreshed car began in the early part of this year.
