What to do if you have problems with your windshield wipers
Wipers are a common accessory on cars. Sometimes, after being used for a long time, problems such as unclear wipers and abnormal noises may occur. Sometimes it also affects the driving vision, which is very unsafe.
Some people may choose to replace the wipers directly, while others want to repair it themselves, but don’t know what to do. So today I will share with you the problem of wiper repair.
- Water marks left when wiped by the wiper
The most common situation where the wiper fails to wipe cleanly is that water marks will be left on the windshield after the wiper wipes it.
Based on research, if the wiper fails to wipe clean, it is most likely due to contamination, aging, damage, etc. of the rubber strip. For example, the rubber strips age naturally, dust and sand falling on the glass contaminate the wipers, or the wiper blades lose their elasticity.
In this case, you can gently wipe it with a wet towel and paper towel and wipe the strip clean.
However, if the wiper has been used for more than a year, the strip may harden, have chips and cracks due to exposure to the sun and rain. Then wiping the strip at this time will cause some small sand and gravel on it to be embedded in the gaps, which will cause the wiper to be wiped. It's harder to shave clean. There is a way to solve this situation yourself, which is to use 3000-grit or above sandpaper to polish the strip back and forth until the gap is smoothed. Sandpaper can be purchased at hardware stores and is inexpensive. However, do not use too much force when polishing, and this method should not be used too many times, because the wiper strips are made of rubber. Excessive polishing will damage the outer rubber surface and produce abnormal noises when water is blown.
- Damaged wiper blade spring
If the wiper blade does not wipe clean, it may be caused by a damaged spring.
If the scraper arm has uneven pressure, the water film formed will be uneven, which looks like what we often call incomplete scraping.
There is a spring where the wiper arm is connected to the car body. After being used for a long time, the spring may become loose and rusty, resulting in changes in the pressure on the wiper arm and uneven distribution, and the wiper will not be able to wipe clean.
- The front windshield is contaminated
There is also a situation where the wiper cannot clean it because there are some foreign objects and oil film on the front windshield itself, which has nothing to do with the wiper. For example, if some cars are parked under a tree, there may be insects crawling over and bird droppings falling; or if you drive to a place with a lot of dust, fine sediment will adhere to the front windshield, which will change after it rains. It becomes an oil film.
Observe the front windshield carefully. If there is a rainbow-shaped mark on it, or it feels grainy to the touch after being wet with water, it means the front windshield is dirty. If you want to deal with this situation yourself, you can buy a bottle of glass degreaser and clean the front windshield.
But not all wipers can be repaired. Some wipers will age out in half a year or a year. If there are obvious gaps or damage to the wipers, there is no need to bother repairing them. Just replace them with new ones.
